Ways to Stay Protected Against Coronavirus

If you are worried about COVID-19, also commonly called coronavirus, you are not alone. Many people, in fact, are alarmed by its quick spread across the globe. Since things can change rapidly and there is conflicting news, you may have a hard time knowing how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from this disease.

As a provider of skilled nursing care and home care in Pingree Grove, Illinois, we are providing useful tips to help you fight against the spread of COVID-19:

  • Practice regular hand washing.
Hand hygiene is the easiest and most effective measure to minimize risk of COVID-19. You should wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Always wash your hands before eating, after using the restroom, and after sneezing, coughing, or blowing your nose. If soap and water are unavailable, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Stock up on supplies—without hoarding.
Make sure you and your loved ones are prepared in case of a local outbreak. You should have enough groceries, over-the-counter medicines, and medical supplies. However, as any provider of nursing care services would tell you, do not panic purchase. Over-buying will affect other people in your community who also need food and other essentials.
  • Stay home if possible, especially if you’re not feeling well.
Staying at home is a simple and effective way to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19. You should stay home as much as you can, only going out for essential activities like buying your household’s needed supplies. This helps you avoid contact with potential carriers of the disease. Wear a protective face covering like a fabric mask when you do shop at stores. If you’re not feeling well or have symptoms of illness (like coughing or fever), then let someone else shop for you to prevent the disease from possibly spreading.
